As a hobby photographer you will certainly appreciate such a wonderful camera and you will be stunned at the picture quality that the Leica S2 produces, because using point-and-shoot cameras might be good already, I mean they certainly are better than everything available 50 years ago, but the real deal in photography is still an SLR camera, and you'll immediately see the difference once you used one yourself.
If you aren't a professional photographer, chances are you do not know what an SLR camera is or how it works. An SLR camera is different from normal cameras in that its shutter is far faster than anything you could make digitally, and the image you see on the display or through the viewer in older cameras is exactly the same image that will be captured when you push the button.
This is because you see an image which is reflected by a mirror to your display, and when the image is take the mirror flips up and exposed the image sensor rapidly to the light and closes again, making such photography really fast with enormous shutter speeds. This is especially important if you like to shoot sports or fast moving objects like cars or planes or animals, since all these are difficult to capture well with ordinary cameras.
Now most SLR cameras have exchangeable lenses, which means that you can modify the photo you take in many different ways. You can get telescopic lenses, fisheye lenses, color filter lenses, macro lenses for macro photography and so on, and you'll be able to see things which you didn't even know were there.
Using such a professional camera as the Leica S2 is something that needs time and practice of course, but it is a very fun pass time if you ever look for a hobby, and the results are stunning.
