Review of the Nikon D5000

There is a wide range of digital cameras available today, but finding the right one for you can be a daunting task. Price can often be a determining factor. One affordable choice for would-be photographers is the Nikon D5000, which is available for purchase at under $1000.

The Nikon D5000 is a good choice for newcomers to the digital SLR market. It is available in body only or with an 18 to 55mm lens kit. Weighing just over 21 ounces, it features 12.3 megapixels, an 11-point AF system, and an improved image processor that offers optional GPS. The Nikon D5000 also supports wireless uploading. It powers on quickly and is particularly well-suited for shooting in low light. The burst shooting rate is better than that of many of its competitors.

One drawback of this model is the flip-down, swivel style of the LCD viewfinder. Although featuring interactive displays, the LCD screen is small and difficult to use at times, especially when shooting pictures in direct sunlight. It is not as user-friendly as some of its competitors, like Canon and Olympus. Moreover, the Nikon makes it too easy to inadvertently change focus points when setting up a shot. It also offers video capture, but it only records in 720p.

Overall, the Nikon D5000 provides excellent picture quality, solid performance, and great color photos. The Nikon D5000 makes a great entry-level digital SLR camera for those looking to take their photography to the next level but who don't want to break the bank in order to do so.
